How Do You Continue a Numbered List in WordPress Gutenberg?

Problem

You’re using a numbered list for content in WordPress. You need to add an image between points 3 and 4 but cannot figure out how to continue the numbered list at 4 between the break where the image is located.

Using the Classic Editor

1. Write the sentence that you wish to number
2. WordPress will restart the numbering process as in the above example
3. Switch from the Visual to the Text Editor on your screen
4. Go to the place where you wish to continue with the numbering. It will look something like the picture below;

5. Add: start=”2″ to the front of the first “ol”
6. You will then have something that’s similar to the image below;

 

7. You can now switch back to Visual mode
8. You will see that you will now have a properly numbered list as in below
9. Unfortunately, however, you actually have repeat the process for every number that you wish to create. Its not too much work, but its a bit annoying, nevertheless.

Using Gutenberg

1. While working on your numbered list, being sure you have the list and not the list element selected look at the right hand sidebar.
2. Select the “Continue Numbering” field.
3. Enter the number you want to start your continued list with.
